Wilson Creek Battlefield

We've been seeking out the activities (as cheap as possible) that Springfield has to offer. There's plenty to do. For example, the civil war battlefield in Battlefield, MO (about 10 minutes form our apartment).

This is the Ray House - Family farm used during the battle at Wilson's Creek by the Confederates as a hospital. The family hid in the cellar during the battle, but the father watched from the porch. The bed where a prominent Union general was laid after he was killed in this battle can be seen through the window.

This is the view from the porch. Typical Springfield landscape. The battle could be seen from this view. This was only the 3rd battle fought in the Civil War. Control over Missouri was desirable by both sides due to its location.

This is a sink hole where 30 Union soldiers were hastily buried (and probably where Jon got the 3 ticks he brought home).

Here is the presumed spot where General Nathaniel Lyon was killed while leading a charge into battle on "Bloody Hill". The Union general fought against the governor of Missouri and much of the state who wanted to be part of the Confederacy.

In our deep reflection of the sites, we accidentily ran over Carsey... luckily she recovered... ;)
